Hevi-Sand^® is a versatile, unique aggregate tailored for traditionally difficult metalcasting applications. Selectively mined from the richest and purest deposits in the world, this naturally-occurring chrome ore undergoes several intensive cleaning and screening processes. Hevi-Sand chromite spinel is available in three grades for foundry use in bag and bulk quantities.

The unique characteristics and proven performance of Hevi-Sand provides a means for foundrymen to cast tough jobs and produce high quality castings. The density of Hevi-Sand, compared to silica sand, provides the mold or core with a high rate of heat transfer and excellent chilling characteristics, often eliminating the need for fabricated or cast metal chills. Chipping, grinding and overall cleaning costs are significantly reduced. Minimal binder requirements and excellent permeability reduce the possibility of scrap caused by gas problems. Hevi-Sand® has excellent peel characteristics and produces good surface finish.
